Banora Point and Terranora - Our local area
Banora Point is located directly south of the border towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads, which are just 100 kilometres south of Brisbane, on the southern tip of the Gold Coast. The region offers an unparalleled lifestyle for retirement, holidays, family life or business.
The magnificent climate is sub-tropical, and is moderated by refreshing offshore breezes during the summer months. The Tweed River winds its way from the mountains west of Murwillumbah, through the Tweed valley, down to meet the Pacific Ocean at Tweed Heads.
The southern Gold Coast is famous for its sun, surf and sand. Coolangatta offers safe, pristine beaches, and is a popular year-round destination for tourists and families. In recent years, Coolangatta has become known for its cafes, restaurants and nightlife.
The peninsula area of East Banora Point offers many homes with views of the Gold Coast skyline, Tweed River and ocean, and is popular with families and retirees. To the west of the highway, Banora Point itself offers a range of larger family homes, many of which offer views, townhouses, villas and duplex units. Oxley Cove is the riverside area to the south of the main part of Banora Point. This area offers many canal front homes and duplexes.
Terranora is located directly to the west of Banora Point and offers many substantial homes on larger blocks in a semi-rural setting, as well as family homes close to the new Terranora shopping centre and Terranora Public School.
Club Banora and Twin Towns Juniors club at Banora Point offer dining and recreational facilities, and major shopping centres are Tweed City at Tweed Heads South and Centro Tweed in Tweed Heads.
This region offers you the opportunity to live amongst the peace and quiet, and yet be just a few minutes’ walk or drive from all the conveniences you require.
Local Landmarks
Point Danger is the most commonly known landmark on the Tweed Coast. It is the home of the Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse, in Tweed Terrace, Tweed Heads. It lays claim to being the first in the world to experiment with laser technology (1971) to create its beam, but the experiment was unsuccessful and it returned to the more conventional mirrors, magnifying glass and powerful electric lamps (1975).
Fingal Lighthouse, located in Fingal Parade, Fingal Head, was erected in 1872. Built from stone, and painted white, the tower had a fixed white light of 1000 candelas. Even though the light tower is not high and its is built on a low headland, the light is effective as it is built on one of the most easterly points of Australia, with plenty of deep water offshore. The original kerosene wick burner was converted to automatic acetyleme operation in 1920 with an output of 1500 candelas and altered to group flashing. The one keeper was withdrawn at this time.
